The Duo Gray-Magamedova has captivated audiences across four continents since their formation in 2019. Praised for their “splendidly cohesive interpretations” and “evocative interplay where the two voices echo, imitate, and complement each other exquisitely,” the duo has performed throughout Europe, the United States, the Middle East, and Asia.

Known for their innovative programming, Gray and Magamedova specialize in crafting thematic concert experiences—from Fairytales in music to folk-inspired compositions and neoclassical works that reimagine historical traditions. Their Fairytales project will be released by the Franco-Swiss label Aparté in 2026.

Since their New York debut at Lincoln Center’s Paul Hall in 2019, the duo has graced prestigious venues including Berlin’s Pierre Boulez Saal and Berlin Philharmonic, and the Tajikistan National Opera and Ballet Theatre. On the radio, they have been featured on “Générations France Musique, le Live”, Asia Plus and WFMT Chicago.

At the 2025 European Chamber Music Competition, they won 3rd prize and since 2026, they are supported as laureates of the Fondation Banque Populaire. As Young Artists in Residence at the Scandinavian Cello School in Denmark, they balance music outreach initiatives with concert performances across Scandinavia. Together, they received a Master’s of Chamber Music at the Conservatoire national supérieur de musique de Paris under the guidance of Itamar Golan and François Salque.

Johannes Gray

“Profound, sensual, and sometimes wild, the playing of Johannes Gray is incandescent” (ResMusica). Following his debut with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra at the age of 14, the cellist is a multiple prizewinner of the International JS Bach Competition in Leipzig, won the International Pablo Casals Award, was a Gold Medalist of the Fischoff Chamber Music Competition, received the Verbier Festival’s Prix de l’APCAV award, and was awarded the prestigious “Talent Adami Classique”.

Solo engagements have taken him across four continents – including performances at the Berlin Philharmonie, the festivals of Ravinia and Verbier, Lincoln Center, SuperCello (Beijing), and the Cello Biënnale Amsterdam. Recent highlights include his concerto debut in New York at Lincoln Center’s David Geffen Hall and performing with the Armenian State Orchestra, the Stuttgart Chamber Orchestra, and the Metamorphosen Berlin Chamber Orchestra, and at the Berlin Philharmonie, Dubai’s Theatre of Digital Arts, the State Opera Theatre of Tajikistan and the Casals Forum Kronberg. In 2026 he will have his debut with the BBC Philharmonic in Manchester.

Anastasiya Magamedova

Praised as “a bundle of dynamite, combining quiet delicacy with thundering power” (Chicago’s Hyde Park Herald), pianist Anastasiya Magamedova is known for her “sophisticated and thoroughly satisfying renditions” of complex repertoire. Critics have highlighted her ability to navigate demanding works with “confidence,” delivering performances of striking intensity, lyrical simplicity, and rich, expressive textures.

Recognized for her artistry across a wide range of styles, Magamedova has been lauded for her ability to capture the “improvisatory feeling” of a piece while handling its technical demands and sudden mood shifts “with aplomb” (Cleveland Classical). Born in Dushanbe, Tajikistan, she began studying piano at the age of five and is a graduate of the Juilliard School.
